Sipping your favourite coffee drink often holds the risk of accidentally staining something with it. Whether it ends up on your clothes or the carpet, one thing is certain: getting a coffee stain anywhere is not pleasant. If you don’t treat it right away, you run the risk of ruining your clothes, carpet or whatever surface it might have ended on.
Knowing what stain removal methods to apply is very important for the success of getting coffee stains off. It is true that such stains usually occur at the most inconvenient time, such as when you are in an extreme hurry or when you finally decide to finish that chapter of a great booked curled up on your couch. Regardless of what situation you find yourself in, you must take adequate measures to address the stain right away. Here is how you should proceed in the three most common cases:
- Coffee on your clothes - one of the most common places that you may spill coffee on is your own clothing. Should that happen, you can take several courses of action involving different cleaning service solutions. One would be to use a sponging method, using only cool water. You can either sponge or soak the clothing in cool water for some time. Pre-treat the spot with a stain removal product and then launder. Keep in mind that if you had cream or milk in your coffee, you will need to use a stain remover with enzymes. One other method of getting a coffee stain off your clothes is to simply pour a liberal amount of club soda and then blotting the liquid. Keep at it until the stain is completely gone.
- Coffee on your carpet or rug - should you spill coffee on your carpeting, you will do well to treat the stain quickly. If you let it set in the fibers, you will need serious carpet cleaning, and even then success is not guaranteed. Blot the stain to get as much of the liquid as possible off the carpet. Proceed by mixing one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent, one tablespoon of white vinegar and two cups of water. Use a sponge and a clean white cloth to apply the solution. Work carefully and apply only little bit at a time to prevent further staining and too much spreading of moisture. Sponge with cold water and dry thoroughly when you are done.
- Coffee on the upholstery - in case you were drinking coffee and spilled part of it on your upholstered furniture, you need not worry that much for there are some proven methods that you can use. One of them is to thoroughly blot and dry the stain using baby wipes. In case you are in need of more serious stain removal solution, you can use a mix of one tablespoon liquid dish soap and two cups cool water. Sponge the stain with a clean white cloth, and repeat until the stain disappears completely. Use dry-cleaning solvent as a last resort - blot until it is fully absorbed and work until the stain is gone.
You can effectively clean coffee stains by following these guidelines. Don’t forget to act fast and always apply the right solution as this can make a huge difference.
