How to Clean Your Curtains and Blinds
Curtains and blinds undergo a lot of damage every single day. Because they are constantly in your windows in Mayfair, they are exposed to the sun constantly which causes the fabric to be both damaged and lose its colour. The material actually weakens when exposed to too much light. Particles freely fall onto the material, a lot of particles fall deep into the fibres of the curtain or bind. If these particles build up too much, it will not only be very dusty and look grimy but it will also retain all the bad odours. Because of all of this, both blinds and curtains need to be well maintained with weekly cleaning and a deeper clean every few months.
Cleaning your curtains
Different curtains require different techniques of cleaning. Before you attempt to clean yours, you should always check the label to see what you can and can’t do. If you are allowed to machine wash the curtains in your home in Mayfair, W1K, always check the load limit on your machine and don’t exceed it. Not only will you do damage to your machine, your curtains will also not be properly cleaned. You should also remove any hooks and removable items and loosen the string at the top. Choose a delicate and warm cycle so you don’t do any damage and then dry. You can either dry in the tumble dryer, in which case it needs to be on a low heat. You can also let it dry naturally which means it will dry straight so there will be no need to iron it. If you need to hand wash it, you’re better off doing it in a bath tub because of its size. Run the bath, add some washing detergent and then stir the water to make sure the detergent dissolves properly and is dispersed evenly. Add the curtains and hand wash without being too rough. Rinse the curtains thoroughly and make sure all of the detergent has been washed out of the material. You can then go about drying them in the same way as if you would have machine washed it. If neither of these particularly takes your fancy, there is always the dry cleaner. Although this is most definitely the more expensive option, you will always know the job will be done to a professional standard and it does save a lot of time and hassle. Net curtains can be washed in the washing machine and you can put them in with all of your delicates. Net curtains should also be vacuumed regularly as they too trap a lot of dust and very quickly start to smell.
Once a week, you should vacuum your curtains to keep the dust build up to a minimum and reduce the amount you have to properly clean them.
Cleaning your blinds
In some ways, blinds are much harder to clean than curtains because of the number of different types. All blinds can be wiped down with a damp cloth or dusted and should be cleaned on a one or two week cycle as well as each time the windows are cleaned. If you put an attachment on your vacuum, you can also vacuum most blinds but if you want a deeper clean in your home in Mayfair, you can use either an upholstery solution cleaner for fabric blinds and follow the instructions on that or use a soapy water solution for any hard surfaced blind and wash them by hand. Only blinds made from fabric can be taken to the dry cleaner and this might be expensive.
