How to Clean Your Carpets if You Have Pets!

Posted on Author:

We all love our four-legged friends, but as much as we adore our fuzzy friends, they can cause a few problems in the cleaning department! If you have pets then you should make certain changes to your domestic cleaning routine, especially when it comes to carpet cleaning. If you want to clean your carpets like professional cleaners, and get rid of your unwanted pet odours and stains then you don’t need to look any further – here are some tips to help you!
1)    Get the right supplies.
If you want to properly clean your carpets and keep them free from pet-mess then you need to make sure that you cleaning cupboard is fully stocked at all times. You’re going to want to have bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid, cleaning cloths and sponges to keep your carpets looking their absolute best!
2)    Getting rid of unwanted pet odours.
Pets can cause unpleasant odours in your home, and it’s usually due to unclean carpets. To get rid of horrible smells in your home then sprinkle your carpets and rugs with bicarbonate of soda. Let this sit for an hour or so before vacuuming up. The bicarbonate of soda works as a natural deodoriser, and will help to lift scents from your floor. This is a great all-natural alternative to chemical carpet deodorises, which can sometimes be harmful to animals. You can also try pouring white vinegar into a spray bottle and spraying your carpets lightly. Although this will leave a vinegary-scent, when this scent leaves so will your animal smells!
3)    Getting rid of stains on your carpets and rugs.
Muddy paw prints and toilet accidents can leave stains on your carpets, so make sure you’re ready to tackle them! Take a bowl of warm water and add a dash or two of washing up liquid. Take a clean sponge and gently dab at the stain until it begins to lift. Do this for a while and the stain should disappear completely! Use a clean and dry cloth to blot the stain dry. Never use boiling water on a stain as this can actually help to set it!
4)    Keeping your carpets clean.
Make sure your carpets are as clean as possible by keeping a mat or towel by your front door. Take the time to wipe your pet’s paws when they come in from a walk, so that mud and grime won’t get walked across your floor. For more thorough cleaning, why not keep a packet of wet wipes or baby wipes to clean the entirety of your pet’s paws and legs – this is a great way to remove stubborn mud! Keep your home clean by keeping your pets clean – bathe them regularly and brush long-haired animals to prevent hair shedding onto your furniture and carpets!
5)    Hiring cleaning contractors.
If you’re struggling to deal with pet grime and muck in your home then get in touch with your local cleaning companies! You’ll be able to hire professional cleaning agencies that can help you with rug cleaning, carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning to ensure that you won’t have to deal with pet mess! Shop around to find the best cleaning agency for your needs, and don’t forget to do your research – you don’t want to be spending your money on an unprofessional or unreliable cleaning service!
